There is no such word as "rassismus" in Finnish - that sounds more
like German to me. However, an adapted form of the English word
"racism" which is "rasismi" is sometimes used instead of the Finnish
word "syrjintä" which means 'discrimination' not 'dislike'. Originally
the loanword "rasismi" was used as a synonym for "rotusyrjintä" (race
discrimination), but some people have lately started to use
expressions like "ikärasismi" (age racism) for "ikäsyrjintä" (age
discrimination). This usage frequently causes irritation among purists
who believe that the etymology of the word should be respected.
