How did the lower case letters evolve? It is the upper
case letters in Latin and Greek which are the ancient
forms. The lower case letters certainly evolved from
them, including cursive forms from people trying to
save the material or communicate.

Unfortunately, some of the forms of cursive writing
which evolved lost the clarity, and the lower case
letters often are harder to write. Of the three
alphabets which have printed upper and lower case,
I find the lower case easier to read, especially
if the letters are not crammed together in typing.
