As for, Beja some researches (Hetzron, 1980) even doubt it's part of
AA family at all. [This fact is reflected in numerals also, indicating
Beja's proximity to Nilo-Saharan.]
What is Hetzron 1980?

Possibly 'The limits of Cushitic', Sprache und Geschichte in
Afrika 2.7-162. However, what I see on the web indicates
that Darkstar has it wrong: Hetzron wanted to remove it from
Cushitic and make it an independent branch of AA.

Gosh, I haven't looked at that in years ....

Robert was one of the AAists who brought a different scheme for AA
every year to NACAL (North American Conference on Afroasiatic
Linguistics). The many conflicting proposals simply show how elusive
the data are -- for all but two of the families, we have nothing
that's more than 200 years old (and that's a very generous estimate).
