The discussion was on the use of "racism", not "race"
"English" is far wider than your limited circle.
The word "Racism" is applied to "any and all prejudice or
discrimination based on accident of birth" by a good number of English
speakers, at leat since 1945. They don't happen to be you, you friends
or other skin-tone-obsessed Americans, but it is there. Live with it.

The fact that "race" has no denotation does not mean you are free to
apply it to any grouping whatsoever
