Hi,
Just a curiosity: in french the first persons of sing. and plur. 'tu'
and
'vous' are peculiarly close to russian 'ты' and 'вы': is it a
coincidence ?
It isn't a coincidence at all. They are related languages, and these are
words with common origins. Likewise, English "thou" and German "du" are
related to "tu" and "ты", and Russian "я" is likewise related to French
"je", as well as to English "I", German "ich", etc.
What are the etymologies of 'ты' 'вы' ?
Don't know, sorry.
See etymologies of 'tu' and 'vous' or lookup online Vasmer.
