You are involved, you don't stand outside the world.
When you look at such an eye idol, or a big idol
on an altar, as in a reconstrction in an archaeological
book I have at home, you can't withstand those

when either looking into the eyes of a deitiy or of
an ancestor, and the silent contract which is being
made is your promise to follow the will of the god
or godess or either of the ancestor on your side

side. A way of saying yes to each other via the
eyes: yes, I will follow your will, and yes, I shall
protect you and your family and your clan and
your cattle and your house and fields ...
