So take a Renaissance picture whose iconography
is well attested, Leonardo da Vinci's Annunciation,
kept in the museum of the Uffizi in Florence: on
the left side an angel raising one hand, before
a typical Tuscan landscape, on the right side
the virgin Mary before a house. Look at the
intense look of the angel toward Mary: it contains
the promise that she will be pregnant soon, and
the same is said by a fine gesture of the raised
hand, which appears before a branching of the
slender trunk of a tree, however, the true promise
is contained in the very expressive glance of
the angel - as soon as Mary will turn her head
and look into the angel's eyes, the heavenly
contract will be sealed ...
