Does America not fit that description?

To me, it would seem quite possible for a country to be both a
democracy and a republic. I do see that it is possible to be a
republic but not a democracy thanks to the "usually" in the second
definition. So, are you saying that the US is not governed by elected
representatives? What are your elections for? Who does govern your
country? Why does one of your major political parties call itself The
Democratic Party?
