Next to the Boii lived the Taurii. Their name is either a derivative
of TYR 'he who overcomes, he who dominates', a word that
survived for example in tower, and in the Austrian Hohe Tauern
(mountains), Tauern was the former word for mountain pass.
Or the name of the Celtic tribe of the Taurii comes from TOR
'bull in motion'. If so, it would well suit the Boii in the sense of
cow or horse. Magdalenian MUC was a bull, PUC might have
been a lateral association for cow.
Seems the P-C words blended:over into each other:
PAC --- horse; PAC AS Pegasus (as explained before), AS PAC
Vedic as'vah for horse (as explained before), back (as horses
carry people on their back), package (as horses carry all kinds
of loads on their back), pack mule (a doubling, horse mule),
Italian vacca for cow, French vache for cow (cows having about
the same size as horses)
PEC --- game; ibex, Latin pecus for cattle, for cows, sheep, goats
PIC --- bird; to pick
PUC (lateral association to MUC for bull) --- cow?
CUP (inverse of puc) --- to capture a cow? captured cow?; rump
form cu- surviving in Old Englsih cu for cow, and in German Kuh
POC --- another word for cow?; rump form -oc ocs ox surviving
in English ox German Ochse
Yes, I challenge PIE *gwous ...
My message was incomplete. Sorry. PAC POC PUC
would have had further derivatives in ancient Greek bous
for ox, and in Latin bos bovis. Consider also that cattle
and horses were introduced into Western Europe via
Hungary and Czechia, homeland of the Taurii and Boii.
A further word fitting in the line is German Bock for a male sheep
(Schafsbock), a male goat (Ziegenbock), a male game (for
example Springbock in southern Africa), and ibex (Steinbock).
