Hmm, you like Fowler?! I'm surprised.

Have you browsed in Fowler? His advice is always couched in the form
of reasoned discussion. He was a great writer and he could explain how
to be a great writer. (His main audience was newspaper writers.) He
did not adopt positions because they were hallowed.
