While I'm at it, the name Le Chatelier,
is it not pronounce leh sha-tel-lyey?
Yes.
How's that?
Who (apart from Anglos) would ever understand it with that final
glide?
There might not be a final glide. <ey> might be pronounced as [i:],
[e:] or [eI]. Be that as it may, <Ler Shattelliyay> might work better
on one who knows no phonetic convention; <leh sha-tel-lyey> can
conceivably produce a really off-the-wall pronunciation like [le:
SejtElaje:].
And how come he can easily avoid the glide in "leh"?
How come he pluralizes?
.
