But that is not how it normally works in translation by people who
don't know the target language, especially if they live as colonials
in an area where their local expressions are understood by their
similarly L2 environment: They use calques.
The examples are not about calques, but about similar looking and
sounding Aramaic words, or even the same word with different meanings,
that come out in Greek as totally different words, losing the pun AND
the rhyming, and sometimes even the correct meaning (assuming what
makes sense is correct).
We'll subsume it all under "puns", to simplify. Translation by grossly
incompetent source-language L1 translators does work just like that.
So if these Aramaic textsare actually translation froms Greek
originals, then these translators very cleverly introduced rhyme and
puns and more sense-making meanings from an original that had neither
of these. Translation better than the original. It is possible, it
happens, I sometimes do it myself with technical "English" written by
Frechmen of Koreans.
Sure: The Semitic calques and puns in the Greek version could have
been transparent to a good translator. I am not competent here; can
only see the Greek side.
