oh mother and Da:d - more Arabic questions
1) What is the explanation behind the h in the word for mother in
Arabic? It only appears in the plural (umma:ha:t) and in some kind of
vocative form (ya: umma:h). Why is it there?
2) One of my references glosses ahlu D-Da:d as "Arabic-speaking
peoples." Why does "the people of the letter Da:d" mean "Arabic-
speakers"?
