'Saldit' means 'to freeze'; and frozen water moves (very) slowly.

From Serbo-Slavic za-lediti; slediti (freeze), za-leđen/s-leđen
(frozne); led (ice; from g-led; Serb. gleđ [enamel], g-ladak [sleek,
smooth, even]); similar logic could be fallowed in Lithuanian: šaldyti
(freeze), ledas (ice) but, as everyone can see, the letters in Baltic
word salt/šaldyti are transposed.

Logical conclusion: Baltic is a variant of Slavic with a speech
defect! :-)
