John Lennon. At 1:47 he says "I was st st stunned, you know". It
almost sounds (to my ears, anyway) as if he said "stoned", but he
didn't. Goes to show it is similar to [o].

But in this interview too, I don't find a single occurrence of short
/u/! It must be really rare in English.
