What is the role of native speakers of Irish today? Are there many left? How
influential are they?

Probably not too much, if one of the main figures of the Irish WP is a
native speaker of Swedish.

The problem with the WP is that it was started by nerds who had little
idea of correct Irish. I tried to recruit some of my native or fluent
friends for it, but they had seen the highly embarrassing first stage
and didn't want to have any truck with it.
