I think there was a very comprehensive Oneida course available on the
Web not long ago, and I printed it out to acquaint myself with a
Native American language. However, I lost both the printout and the
original URL. :(

Older people can usually understand most of the Iroquoian languages.
It gets confusing to me though, as I am still not fluent in Mohawk
YET.
I do notice similarities occasionally, but I usually don't hear too
many
speakers of Iroquoian dialects in my past travels. Thats why most
are
still on the Endangered list (very few speakers alive).

What do you mean when you say 'New World'?

America, the Western Hemisphere, the New World, take your pick. You
see, I am living here in Europe and have never been to the United
States.

I used to know one Iroquoian speaker here in Finland, though. He spoke
one of the Iroquoian languages natively, but he had learned excellent
Finnish, too. I don't know what has become of him since. He was a
lecturer in comparative religion, I think.
