That makes some sense, in which case I has less reason to be rude. I
also came to realize that I placed the responsibility on Franz after a
reconstruction based on comparison of Harlan's and Pat's answers. Or,
rather, I placed it there based on Harlan's post alone and thought I got
it confirmed when an independent attestation emerged. However, the
absence in both could be the result of independent but parallel
development in the two branches. Although in that case I'm sure someone
would have told me by now. Either way I should apologize for overstating
my conclusions about his intentions.

Either way, it's solvable. Try (mgd) and see if it sticks.
