Re: Promote Esperanto at Obama's Change.org

Craoibhi...@xxxxxxxxx:

As regards aesthetical judgements, Esperanto probably does not appeal
to everyone, but in general, it is considered out of bounds in polite
society to vent your aesthetic dislike of a natural language - just
any natural language - because it implies denigration of the people
who speak it. I fail to see why it should be politically correct to
attack Esperanto, if it is politically incorrect to attack, say, Tok
Pisin or Chinook Wawa.

It's possible because the Esperanto-speakers themselves often suppose
Esperanto to be different from other natural languages, or even not to
be natural in the first place. But as far as phonology goes, Esperanto
is practically identical to Lithuanian.

(Just think of what the reaction would be to someone promoting
english or french or whatever as 'a language everybody should learn'.)

In my country, there's a lot of talking about English as a language
everybody should learn, and even more talking that imply that English
is a language everybody have learnt already. Usually the reactions are
very feeble.
