Re: are El/ohim and Allah related?

The meanings listed under the latter two also look like reasonable
semantic developments from some of the other roots. And the "brown"
word(s) could connect to the "burn" root as "green" words to "grow". But
as long as the mechanisms of derivation are unknown, or options are
still open, the conservative solution is to keep the roots distinct.

And, of course, as reconstructed PIE is not a language, it's odd in many
ways. Phonology and lexicon are what can be reconstructed with some
level of confidence. Mainstream etymologies stop where reason and sound
sense would have to yield to imagination and wishful thinking. And here
Franz and the rest of us actually agree: His approach takes us far
beyond reason and sound sense.

What is your sense and reason? That you are not
really happy about bear as the brown one, yet as
it stands in the books, it must be true? And now
you tell us that the brown one is also the burnt one?
No, but the two words are close to each other,
for which I have an explanation that may go
beyond _your_ sense and reason, but as _my_
sense and reason are wider than yours, it lies
well within my horizon: BIR means fur, and PIR
means fire. They are quite close, and so I assume
that Magdalenian P was pronounced in a special
way, aspirated, something like P-h, which would
have allowed an easy shift from P to F, as in PIR
fire. The case of fir is not yet clear to me: is a fir
with the green needles reminding of feathers
and sort of a fur? Is a forest, as realm of bears
who were called the kings of forests, a derivative
of BIR? Or is a fir and a forest as provider of wood
that can be burned a derivative of PIR 'fire'? I vote
for the latter. -- And then, how does PIE fulfil
de Saussures criterium of a minimal distance in
the case of the six homonyms *bher-? You don't
even observe the laws of your own discipline.

Barth Matthias: are you American? your educational
system must be worserlier than even the worsedest
reports we hear about it, as you can't process an
entire statement anymore, not even a whole sentence.
I said: PIE is not the truth, just a theory. You complained
that I called PIE just a theory, snipping the part about truth.
As if I said: Barth Matthias is not God, just a human being,
and you complained about me calling you "just a human
being," while you are the crown of evolution ...
