They march in upward direction, distance between
A and B some fifty meters, the same for B and C
and for C and D, etc, so that the overall distance
A to G is about 300 meters. They walk in a chain,
here upward, but of course on level ground, forward,
till one sees an animal worth hunting (animal), C and
D see it, produce a yodel, and all of them run toward
the animal and thrust their spears in a close up fight,
as reconstructed from the anatomy of Neanderthals,
whereas CroMagnons threw lances, again indicated
by their anatomy.
that it is deduced from their anatomy is not what I remember reading,
I remember reading it was that it was deduced from their injuries.
Except, of course, that "animal" takes off as soon as it hears the
yodel, and humans can't run as fast as the prey animal, so they can't
catch up to "thrust" at it, so none of them brings the luxury of meat
home to his wife, who has been gathering the majority of their daily
calories from the surrounding vegetation.
then they may end up quite hungry. I remember reading, I think it may
be from fossilized Neandertal feces, that Neandertals were quite
carnivorous, and may have relied on meat to the same extent as wolves
(and thus had a different digestive tract from us as well).
That goes a long way to suggesting they _are_ a different species,
making the whole discussion of their linguistic ability moot.
