This is a stupid question. OBVIOUSLY, he wants them to mystically
know it. Equally obviously, HE thinks it's OBVIOUS that they
ALREADY mystically know it, BECAUSE HOW COULD THEY BE *EXECUTING*
the state transitions, otherwise? "Know" is a strange verb, here.
