come one, come all,
if anyone is interested, i'm coordinating an online study group
specifically for those working out of gensler's logic textbook. you
can subscribe to the group at
http://groups.google.com/group/logic-gensler?lnk=li
As an introduction it does start with the basics, but we're hoping to
get quickly into some of the more 'advanced' chapters in the book,
possibly including modal logic, deontic logic, imperative logic, belief
logic, formalized ethical theory, metalogic, inductive logic, "logic
and definitions", and some stuff about informal fallacies.
If you haven't done much logic before, the text does start at the very
basics, and everyone can work at their own pace. Furthermore many of
the later chapters are self contained, i think, so someone could skip
around and do the parts most relevant to them. anyway, there's no
deadlines involved, so there's nothing to lose, really, and the
discussion group i've set up will be good for asynchronous discussion
of any issues someone encounters in the text.
the reviews of the text on amazon are raving (

)
and you can even download free software from the author's website.
anyway, i hope to see some folks there! ta-ta.
