Re: "Torkel Bashing"

Now that I've written this post I'm not sure what the point of it is, as
I have already expressed my admiration of Torkel elsewhere. But perhaps
we can all just drop the subject. Or perhaps not, this being USENET.

If you write to me, I'll write back if possible.

PS. I find it commendable that you recognize that arguing endlessly in a
commemorative thread about how the passed away was an *** and a
troll was a bit on the tacky side.

I'm glad that I was reminded. Sometimes, in the pursuit of what's
true, I lose sight of what's socially acceptable. Since my survival,
like everyone's, depends on a society, that's not a thing to lose sight
of.

However, calling the thread I argued on a 'commemorative thread', while
technically correct, is somewhat misleading. The commemorative posts
had all come in more than a month before. As I see it (and another
eyewitness confirms), at the time I joined it the thread was nothing
but a flame war, with all kinds of little battles raging. You and
another poster were sending each other off-topic posts comparing each
other to terrorists, for example; there was nothing 'commemorative'
about that!

Of course, engaging in such arguments
from the other side is also somewhat lacking in tact.

Indeed, so put most of the blame on the two people (one from each side)
who started all the arguments with those from the other side. The
archive tells you exactly who they were: people whom I'll identify
here only as CB and MB.

Those two weren't solely responsible; some of the blame should also
falled on those who replied to one or the other of them, and kept the
game going. That includes me, and it also includes you.
