The australian philosopher colin leslie dean argues mathematics has no
foundations
Moebee states
Granted, we use an informal version of that logic to prove the
consistency of the formal version of that logic (or we use a formal
version at the meta level to prove the consistency of the formal version
of the object level). But such would be the case for ANY logic that is
foundational
That's the end of my quote:
And this is YOUR remark, not my quote:
Mathematics uses logic
but
it need to prove this logic is consistent
before it has a foundation for its mathematics
1)
if you use logic to prove logic is consistent then you are just begging
the question and being circular -and that is not a proof
or
2)
you use another system as Moebee says
Except that I did put two as an exclusvie alternative to your (1), as
I didn't even frame the matter in terms of your (1) and (2).
And I'm asking you again (I asked last week): Please do not quote me
in such a way that doesn't mark that my quotes are different from your
remarks.
