Click on the spam message, "more options", "report message." If many

This is basically a denial of service attack. It happens when the
spammers buy the Congress and they give them a free reign to disrupt
the Internet instead of putting them in jail.
It's happening on other groups. Google must know about it. They will
lose advertising revenue. So I say abandon Google.

What are the alternatives?

I know that someone is using newsgroup servers which you pay for, such as Agent which have filters.
Maybe Yahoo can do it too.

I'm using aoie which is a free newsgroup server. And I am using Mozilla thunderbird to pick up the posts. They have a filter which doesn't seem to work, and the format is not as good as Google in many ways, but the main thing is that they deliver much less spam.
