Well, I was to London for a fortnight when I was 15, and recently to
Edinburgh for a few days, but that's the extent of it. I would guess
any obsessive reader, of fiction and non-fiction, with some natural
aptitude for language would develop a grasp on what is and is not
idiomatic.
