Oh, the other thing I forgot to mention is that the fineness of the
aerogel then limits the voltage (ie. nano-thickness wires). Some
researcher named Brian Dunn is working on mixing in carbon nanotubes
into the vanadium oxide aerogel, in order to improve their
conductivity. This reminds me of how some researchers are trying to
mix carbon nanotubes into photovoltaic material to similarly improve
the power yield from photocells.
