OK Let me be more specific. Imagine that the data is on a probe that leaves
the solar system and makes its long trek to - say - Proxim Centauri, our
nearest neighbour, crossing the gulf of interstellar space, where -
presumably - not a lot goes on.
180,000 years later, our probe is approaching its destination. Will it be
intact and readable by any prospective space-faring life-forms?
Alternatively it leaves the solar system and just wanders randomly through
space.
What is the best solution for a DVD master that would give the longest
lifespan?
