One way to judge current language popularity is to look
at open source projects in, say, freshmeat.net. Here
is todays snapshot of about 32K projects on that site,
categorized by language. Fortran share is 69/31867~0.2%
If restricted to numerical-heavy projects (I didnt know how to
extract that info) the share would be likely higher.
