Should mesh generation even be considered a topic in numerical analysis? It
sounds like engineering to me.

The research angle of MG belongs to "computational geometry",
which is at the intersection of computer science and mathematics,
with a whiff of numerical analysis thrown in.
Because of this fuzzy mixture, there is no serious research funding
(e.g from NSF) in MG per se. Most advances are driven by applications.

Part of the course is doing a final project which is pretty much open, it can have anything to do with Numerical Analysis.... Since I am a computer Science Major I would like it to be related to computer science ... nonlinear equations solving, a little bit continuation, a little bit plotting... (sci.math.num-analysis)
