Hello;

I would very much appreciate your help in the ANALYTICAL solution of::

sqrt { b^2-(c-X)^2 } - sqrt { d^2-(e-X)^2 } = a

X is +ve, and a <> 0.

Using a computer algebra system, X =

(a^2*c - b^2*c + c^3 + c*d^2 + a^2*e + b^2*e - c^2*e - d^2*e - c*e^2 + e^3
+/- sqrt(-(a^2*(a^4 + b^4 - 2*a^2*(b^2 - c^2 + d^2 + 2*c*e - e^2)
+ (c^2 - d^2 - 2*c*e + e^2)^2 - 2*b^2*(c^2 + d^2 - 2*c*e + e^2)))))/
(2*(a^2 + (c - e)^2))

BTW, this is not a good newsgroup in which to ask such a question!

David;
Thank you very much for your prompt reply and for your tremendous
help.
Is that the EXACT solution with no error term O() ???? Amazing !!!
Out of curiosity, how did you, your "computer algebra system" derive
such a complex solution ??
What would be the good group for future similar questions ??? Maybe,
just math instead of sci-math.num-analysis !!
Kindest regards.
