I just found something maybe even better:
google for reaction++diffusion++codes:
there is a reaction diffusion toolbox available in matlab,
and there are lots of codes available.
reaction+diffusion might be much more involved, since reaction constants
may vary in a wide range such that indeed you get a multiscale
problem

Thanks to all.

The reason I was not going through google search is precisely the vast
number of hits (although one allways learns something new when going
through the top 100).

I was hoping that there is a handful of well tested packages that
people routinely use. And I guess that Clawpack will be my first
choice to look at.
