Is anyone familiar with the MacLauren expansion x + 2x^2 + 4x^3 + 8x^4
+ ... + 2^(k-1)x^k ?
It is a geometric series with ratio (2x). So the sum is
x[ (2x)^k - 1 ]/[2x - 1]
Of course 2xS-S gives the answer directly.
