Imperial College London is looking for number theorists---they are
advertising a full-time number theory job at
http://www.ma.ic.ac.uk/showparticularsURL.php?rowid=46
and also two 2-year post-docs (not tied specifically to number theory, but
number theorists are welcome to apply!) at
http://www.ma.ic.ac.uk/showparticularsURL.php?rowid=47
Alternatively, follow your nose from http://www.ma.ic.ac.uk/ .

Now follows a wholly biased diatribe on why someone might want to consider
applying :-)
London is an extremely vibrant and exciting place to live, and Imperial
College is very busy when it comes to number theory. Amongst other things
currently going on, there is a course on automorphic forms, a study group
on Deligne's conjectures on L-functions, and the weekly seminar. From next
year Fred Diamond will be based in London, working at King's College,
just a few tube stops down the road. The number theorists (staff and graduate
students) at Kings, Imperial and UCL meet up once a week for an afternoon of
number theory which starts off at lunch time and finishes up in the pub
in the evening. Number theorists in London currently include
David Burns, Colin Bushnell, Kevin Buzzard, Toby Gee, Richard Hill,
Alexei Skorobogatov and David Solomon, with Fred Diamond to come next year,
and there are also about 15 number theory graduate students. For those
of you that know the UK system, Imperial College pure mathematics got 5* in
*both* its RAE's, which is the top grade (at every RAE, only three or four
pure maths departments in the UK are given this grade). As well as number
theory, it also has groups working in algebra, analysis, and a very very strong
geometry group (for example Simon Donaldson, the Fields Medallist,
is at Imperial).
One last thing to mention is that the salary for the lectureship is very
high for a new lecturer---the salary will be at least 36,200 UK pounds
per year, which currently (4th Nov 2005) translates to $63,384 US,
or 53,584 Euros.
One last remark: don't apply to me, please follow the directions given
in the ads on the website.
