Odd printouts like the "=3D" you mention are often the consequence of
using a character whose code is outside the standard ASCII range (i.e.,
a code value > 127).
Many NG's, and NG browsers, fail to handle such codes correctly, giving
rise to such oddities as your "=3D" in place of what you expected to be
a simple "=".
