Command line Maple vs GUI

Hello all.

I need a complicated system of equations. I am calling the solve
command to do this. I assume Maple is using some numeric solver
because my solution contains floating point numbers.

I perform such an operation within a for loop. Within the maple GUI,
there becomes a point where maple is not returning an answer. I assume
this is because a.) There is no solution, b.) Maple is running out of
memory.

This is my question:

1.) Is there a computational advantage to running a script in command
line Maple? If so, how do I run a script within the command line
environment?

2.) Is there a way to kill a command after a certain time period has
passed?

Any info would be much appreciated!

Chris
