For this to work :
- X11 must be installed
- you must start xmaxima in XTerm (X11 icon) that is :
- launch X11
- set the environment variable XMAXIMA_MAXIMA on the path of maxima (I think) (/sw/bin if you installed it with fink)
- launch xmaxima (/sw/bin/xmaxima)


There is a fine little tool that allows to launch xmaxima directly (as well as any other X11 application) : XDroplets http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15838

  Once this tool installed :
  - execute 'XDroplets Factory'
    in the dialog box a command-line is required :
  - enter 'xterm' and validate
    arguments are required :
  - enter '-e /sw/bin/xmaxima' and validate
    a path is wished :
  - I put '/sw/bin'    (not sure to be right but it worked..)
    an 'environment variable' was asked :
  - enter 'XMAXIMA_MAXIMA=/sw/bin'
    has the program must be run with administrator privileges?
  - I answered 'No'
    and finally the name and localization of your applet
  - I put 'XMaxima'
  It should create a working XMaxima.app !

It worked the first time I tried it (for some minutes!)
(curiously when you launch multiple instances of XMaxima, Maxima seems to be executed only half of the times ???)
