I use Maxima on Windows. The user interface is "OK". Sometimes, I use
the open-source wxMaxima GUI front end - which is very good, and easy
to install. Friends think that I'm crazy - but I actually prefer to use
the default interface to the GUI interface. I would recommend that
beginners start with the GUI interface, though.

The technical support is good - you can either join the list, or just
post your questions at this forum. The experts are, in my experience,
friendly and responsive.
