Slowly MAXIMA in TeXmacs

dear all
when loading a 2 MB sav file into TeXmacs the echo of any input (typed) is
longer than 30 sec!.
I am running TexMacs on a 1 GB-Intel-machine 3GHz Pentium 4 on FC4.
Is there a way to speed it up?
