If you have Matlab, forget the Routh stability criterion -- just take
the roots of your system's characteristic equation (or the eigenvalues
of the "A" matrix). If the real part of any root or eigenvalue is not
negative, the system is unstable. The Routh stability criterion is only
useful if you are restricted to doing hand calculations (like way back
when I had control theory in school and the only computational aid was a
slide rule).
