Character Table for M24

I need help interpreting the Character Tables for M24, as given in GAP by Display(CharacterTable("M24"));
I understand the first table, which is merely the centralizer order, based on primes in M24.
The second table uses the same primes for columns,
and I can see that the top row, (with no column heading)
is the lcm of the values beneath it, but I don't see
how a,b,c compute to give a b or c in the top row.
What are a,b, and c?
The third table is the full character table 26 X 26
A, B, C and D are used and defined in terms of E, and R.
This leads to b7, 2b7, b15, and b23. What are these?
Why are they b7 instead of 7b etc.
Thanks! If anyone knows how I can get on a GAP community
newsgroup, also, let me know.
Paul
