I'm curious why you would choose mupad over either of the big commercial systems, both of which have been used extensively in differential geometry, and have many built-in functions (and available worksheets with more functions defined) specifically aimed at the kind of computations you'd need.

If you want something freely available (mupad is not, although it was initially available, closed source, without fee -- now the fee is substantial), you might look into maxima. The wxmaxima front end seems very nice, and it is available under the gpl. But it would probably be a lot more work to do your computations with this, or with mupad, than with maple or mathematica.
