I looked at some alternative CAS but I did not find convincing
solutions to work under Windows.
For example, I browsed and wandered to dowload the Axiom for windows
and could not find a working download.
For Sage, I even didn't dare an install considering the size of the
install (654 MB) and the lack of further information about what will
happen when I install it. (I should be careful: I have 1 computer for
my business and my hobby!)
Did I miss something?
What would be your best advice?
Long ago I had heard that SAGE had a live CD or there was a talk of
it, or it must be at least possible to bundle SAGE (and many other
CASs) on a live linux CD. (Perhaps KnoppixMath already does that.)
That way you can play with a few and see if they meet your needs. I
have also heard (but never tried) that SAGE can be run on their
website. You can confirm this by posting on the SAGE support mailing
list. There is also SymPy, it may be easy to install on windows, since
it is pure python. I have Maxima on windows, although I am neither a
heavy windows user nor a heavy Maxima user, so I can't say if that
will be good enough for your needs.
Another possibility definitely worth considering is GiNaC - it is a C+
+ library for doing symbolic maths within C++ programs. If I am not
mistaken, it is developed by some physicists.
