It was intended as a form of mockery.

A mentalist is an entertainer who does a cold reading act, which as
entertainment is not a problem. It's a problem when the mentalist fancies
herself to have psychic powers.

Likewise, I have no problem with those who belong to high IQ societies.
Unless they fancy themselves the smartest people in the world and think
they can throw their weight around here in sci.math.

I'm sorry, but I have no more respect for such individuals than I have for
members of the Psychic Friends Network.
