Sobolev (linear functionals)

Let H denote H^1 [o] (U) where U an open bounded set.

o - denotes zero boundary condition

My question is about H* or H^(-1)(U) .

If given a f in H* and f in L^2(U) but not told what

the H , H* pairing is are we supposed to assume pairing

given by the L^2(U) inner pruduct? (( as we do with distributions))
