The invention of an imaginary friend to whom dubious questions
can be attributed is an old literary conceit (see Plato's dialogues).
Another related euphemism is the visit to a physician to ask about
one's "friend's" embarrassing problem.

One of the first replies you got from me gave a brief answer to that
