Alain Connes wrote a book on non-commutative geometry.

Vaughan Jones (University of California, Berkeley) and
Henri Moscovici (Ohio State University) reviewed his book
in the August 1997 issue of the Notices of the AMS.

According to the reviewers, the prerequisites include
operator algebras (C^*-algebras and von Neumann algebras);
Before studying operator algebras, it's good to study
functional analysis, measure theory and general topology.
