I think that's right if it is the same thing I'm thinking of. It was 1/8th the
wheel, however. It was a physics model more than a statistics thing. You first
develop a model of a general roulette wheel by experimenting with one at home.
You then particularize the model to a specific wheel and croupier. You do this
by entering data on ball speed (measured by how fast the ball goes between two
points), wheel speed, and the winning number. You enter this data via switches
in your shoes and it goes to a computer. Once you have enough data, you again
tell the computer about ball and wheel speed for a particular throw, and it
will come back (through various devices attached to the skin) with the likely
1/8 of the wheel where the ball will fall. You then bet on these numbers.
