I think the intended reference here is a little oblique. Arturo
is being too modest.
The Magidin-Mckinnon paper appears in the May 2005 Amer Math Monthly:
http://www.maa.org/pubs/monthly_may05_toc.html
And in fact it is the lead article. Congratulations! The Monthly
is not an easy journal to get into!
As to the coincidence: it is extremely unlikely that Harris is
aware of this publication. I think his departure announcement here
is either because of his relative's reactions to the obscene rants
on the fake blogsite (rants which I think are *not* fakes, but direct
quotes from posts he has made here), or to the total failure of his
surrogate factoring "theorem" to do any useful factoring.
It is also possible that he got a rejection letter from the Annals.
If that had happened, however, I think he would be here ranting
about how unfair it was, how they didn't give any reasons for the
rejection or gave totally different reasons than were given here
or how the editors/reviewers must have seen the discussions here
and became biased, or speculating that someone here sent them a
note, etc., etc., etc.. Self-righteous rage *requires* an audience.
Maybe Harris will now write to the Monthly editors with "proof"
that Magidin-Mckinnon is wrong and demand that it be retracted !
